YA contest for “innovative” transit ideas
It’s cute in a way that Eric Schmidt, who probably has not seen the inside of a Muni vehicle in decades, thinks that he can get brilliant new ideas for transit with a cash prize. The thing is that we ALREADY KNOW exactly what needs to be done, and what can be done TOMORROW with political will – get the buses out of traffic!
Simply complete the already-planned BRT projects that are STILL not under construction (Geary, Van Ness, El Camino, Oakland), WITH bus lanes, and add more. Mexico City did it. We could if we actually took action. And let’s implement more of the Transit Effectiveness Project, https://www.sfmta.com/projects-planning/projects/tep-transit-effectiveness-project, which SFMTA is doing as part of Muni Forward http://muniforward.com/.
Of course we can do more, but if all we do is STOP SCREWING AROUND and actually get BUILDING, we will be in much better shape.
OK, Eric, can I have my $125K please?
